Last week was my deadline for my 101 in 1001 goals. It's funny, even though it was a completely arbitrary deadline, I really felt the pressure to get everything done by midnight on December 3, 2015!
I was able to cross off
12. Organize my recipes into a binder
13. Update our will
14. Read "Anna Karenina"
22. Visit Hearst Castle (We did a quick trip one Saturday, and it is definitely worth a visit. I want to go back sometime without kids and do the additional tours we skipped)
52. Begin PAF (So, over the course of these past three years, Personal Ancestral Files kinda ceased to exist. Everything is just on Family Search now. So I altered the goal to find someone to input into our family tree. It helps that one side of Chase's family tree is virtually blank, so I didn't have to go back too far)
80. Take a free online class (I took a class on the psychology of play on futurelearn.com. It was great!)
You're probably wondering, "okay, but how many did you actually accomplish?! What is the final count?!"
So, without further ado, I give you my final score....
99/101
Not too bad, eh?
The final goals I was not able to accomplish were
62. Learn to do a backward walk-over
To be honest, I never even attempted this one. It was probably over-ambitious.
83. Learn to do the splits
This is the only one that makes me sad, because I wanted to do it SO BADLY! And I really tried. I stretched regularly, and even on that final night spent a solid 2 hours stretching. But I just can't get past those last 2 inches. Yet. :)
I have always been a goal-oriented person, the go-getter type. And it was really quite fun and satisfying for me to be able to make all these goals and then accomplish them. I'm not going to start another list soon, but I would absolutely do it again someday. Some of these goals I would have accomplished anyway, but many would not have happened. I know this for a fact because it took a lot of hard work for me to get them done in time! Putting my recipes into a binder, burning all my home videos onto dvd, scanning my journals, prepare my 72 hour kits, taking a free online class, setting up off-site storage for important photos/documents, and finishing my London album are all things I had been wanting to do for some time, but which took a LOT of time and effort, and would simply still have been sitting on the back-burner were it not for this exercise.
I was also so pleasantly surprised to rediscover through these goals some things that I really love. Number 37 was to go see a musical or play. I had not been to a musical in years when I made this goal. Guess how many I've been to now? Actually, I can't even count, but it's been at least half a dozen. Same with going to the opera and ballet. I love these things! I would so much rather go to this kind of performance than see a movie, and I don't know that I would have remembered that had I not had this push to spend the money and try them out again.
In summation, this was a fabulous experience. If you are at all the type of person who likes to make goals, I would highly recommend it.
It also taught me how important it is to make very specific goals. So instead of saying, "I'm going to get in shape," or "I'm going to exercise more," making goals like a number of push-ups you can do, or how fast you can complete a mile, or being able to hold a handstand for 5 seconds allows you to measure your progress and gives you actual, attainable goals. Not, "I'm going to be a better mom," but "I'm going to spend the last five minutes at bedtime sitting beside my kids and talking to them every night." That's something you can measure. Time limits can be helpful, too: "I will read 3 books by March."
Just something for me to keep in mind as I make my new year's resolutions in a few weeks. :)

101 in 1001 update
There are only three weeks left until the deadline for my goals, and I've been hard at work trying to get them all accomplished! In the past couple of months I've been able to cross off
21. Visit Napa
28. Sew new pillow covers
29. Sew a skirt (turns out this was harder than I anticipated. It was originally supposed to be a skirt for me, and ended as a skirt for Livia because I botched the measuring so badly. Clearly this is an area I can keep working on. In the meantime, Liv was pretty excited about it!)
51. Organize my e-life (itunes, computer folders, bookmarks, etc.)
53. Try to get old family pictures from Self, Baldwin, and Adamson side (I still don't have a lot, but I at least have something from each branch of the family now)
57. Prepare 72 hour kits
67. Learn two new embroidery stitches
71. Buy lipstick and wear at least once
74. Attend the temple at least 10 times
85. Go on a double date (okay, so it was more of a group date, but I'm counting it!)
89. Put emergency supplies in both cars
94. Ride a trolley in San Francisco (my girls loved this. They said it was like a roller coaster)
96. Re-read the New Testament
That brings me to a grand total of 93 goals accomplished, and 8 more to go!

Grace
Yesterday was little Gracie's birthday.
I'm a bit in denial over the fact that she's already a year old. The time has positively flown by, and the night before her birthday I held her just a little longer before putting her to bed, trying to vain to hold on to her infancy. She has been the dreamiest baby from Day 1, and I wish I could keep her like this, not forever, but for ever so much longer.
As is now tradition, I put together a slideshow with pictures from her first year of life.
And I need to include a picture of her diving into her cake. Face first.

Enjoy! (Sorry it's small. The bigger, better quality version was too big to upload.)

101 in 1001 update
Some other goals that I manged to cross off my 101 in 1001 list recently were
41. Sit outside at dusk and watch the stars come out
46. Take a night time hike by the light of the moon
49. Off-site storage for important photos and documents
58. Scan my journals (this was an enormous undertaking)
98. Cook a new recipe involving fish (turns out I like salmon, after all!)
99. Refinish a piece of furniture
Only a few months left before my deadline! Wish me luck!

Summer time
Get ready for a picture overload. I know I should do more than one post to cover summer, but eh, I'm not going to.
Summer around here is simply not complete without a trip to Gizdich ranch to pick berries.
Chase participated in a mud run/obstacle course with a bunch of his coworkers.
Trampoline time!
Summer also means swimming lessons
We planted our first ever vegetable garden. And things have actually grown!
We also went to Happy Hollow a number of times over the summer
And even Gracie got to go on some rides
Stargazing
Cull Canyon beach with friends
And potato sack race at a local park
The only trip we took this summer was to Utah, and we had a fabulous time. On the road there we snagged this shot of a classic Grace face.
As was I! I miss these ladies. And Jamie was so kind to host me for a few days while Chase was gone in Moab.
Temple Square
Janie was enthralled by the gardens, of course.
Seriously, temple square is one of the loveliest spots.
Met up at a park with the Harmans. It was fun to catch up, and the kids enjoyed playing with each other too. Seeing friends and family was one of the greatest parts of this trip.
Livia saw a woman practicing tight rope walking, and finally got up the nerve to ask to try it. She never got more than a few steps. It looked hard!
Meanwhile, as I mentioned, Chase was in Moab with the guys in his family.
I think it may just be his favorite place in the world.
I spent a day exploring BYU with my mom and sister
And also had a chance to meet up with several of my old London buddies. I miss them all so much! And London, of course. I can't believe it's already been ten years since that transformative semester.
One of the main reasons for our trip was the Fitt family reunion in Midway, Utah.
The reunion is for my grandfather, his brothers, and all their descendants. Uncle Richard is on a mission in France, and Jay is deceased, but these three were there! We color code.
So this is everyone from my grandpa's particular line that was able to come.
The girls slept together on the pull-out mattress. I'm just glad Jane didn't end up kicking Livia in the face.
Zermott resort had some great amenities, like restaurants, a perfect pool for kids, this carousel
A mini-golf course
And a giant chess board, to name a few. I helped Livia play against Chase, and it ended in a stale-mate.
We met up with the Mayfields one evening. Have I mentioned how much I loved seeing old friends?! Love this family.
After the reunion was over, we spent a few days doing fun things around Utah. We spent one solid day at Thanksgiving point, visiting all the museums.
And another day at Snowbird, where we did the alpine slide, alpine coaster, some sort of zip-line, etc. It was a blast. The entire family (except maybe Grace, who couldn't go on anything) enjoyed it. And there aren't that many activities where that is truly the case, you know? Often I just enjoy things because I know the kids like it, but this was truly fun for everyone. I also managed to cross off a 101 goal while I was there: #6 Do something that terrifies me. This would be the free fall tower, where you climb up a tower and then jump off the top. You're totally strapped in, and it slows you down as you approach the ground, but I am not a huge fan of heights, so stepping off the top really did give me a moment of terror. But I couldn't hesitate more than a moment, since Livia had gone off just before me, and hadn't hardly batted an eye! I couldn't very well let myself get outdone by my 7 year old now, could I?
One evening we went to Bridalveil falls with some of Chase's best friends from High School.
On the way home to California we had a different sort of adventure... :(
We were side-swiped by a semi-truck, which ripped back the whole door, and then sent us careening into the center divide.
You guys, I felt so incredibly blessed and protected. Not one of us was injured. No whiplash, no nothing. Okay, so Livia did get one scrape, but since that was solved by a simple band-aid, it doesn't really count.
It could have been SO much worse. And those few seconds before we stopped moving were terrifying. But no one was sitting next to the point of contact (and usually Jane did. I had just moved her the week before to a different seat), which was such a blessing, because if anyone had been sitting there, they'd have gotten a face full of glass. And the center divide prevented us from rolling, which, believe me, is an experience I've had and do not want to repeat.
I was so impressed by the people we encountered because of the accident. Several people stopped immediately and went above and beyond helping us out, helping calm our children down (because they were totally freaking out), and making sure we were taken care of. The Wendover emergency team was incredible. So kind and generous to my kids, and helped them feel safe again. One of them made this glove balloon for Livia. :)
The worst part was that were stranded in Wendover for two days, frantically trying to get a rental car big enough to get our family home. In the end we ended up in a big pick-up truck, and were again, so blessed that a family in our ward happened to be traveling home the same way and helped get Chase to the rental car place in Elko. There is not much along that lonely highway, my friends.
Can I also give a shout out to USAA, who were amazing to deal with and pretty much made us whole again, with a brand new minivan (since ours was damaged so severely it was totaled, even though it only had about 12,000 miles on it!).
It could have been a horrific experience, but instead was very faith-promoting. I feel incredibly blessed.
Moving on to the rest of summer!
This is what it looks like after we visit the library. The didn't even make it past the entryway.
This is what Livia calls "practicing." I don't think there are adequate words to convey to you the intense, frustrating experience it is to coerce her to practice the piano each day. And it is coercion. She despises it, but I'm making her keep at it until she's 8. The battle rages on.
Stilt walking at Ardenwood farm
More potato sack races
Jane took a ballet class
Livia went on her first real bike ride with Chase.
I had a birthday.
The girls got to play with their cousins
I had to say good-bye to this lovely lady this summer, as they moved clear across the country.
We also had to say good-bye to Chase's parents, as they were getting ready to leave for their mission to Argentina.
Jane's style kills me. It is so eclectic, and yet sometimes she puts together some seriously awesome outfits.
#66 Learn to make a good green smoothie.
I live for moments like this.
Livia took tennis this summer.
And then it was time for school to start up again! 2nd grade for this little one.
And preschool for Jane.
Not pictured, but the best part of this summer, were all the days we just hung out at home, playing with our fabulous neighbors in the front yard and taking it easy.
Summer around here is simply not complete without a trip to Gizdich ranch to pick berries.
You guys. Alexander's patisserie has the most amazing desserts. This and the chocolate orange one about put Chase and I in a beautiful, exquisite food coma.

My cousin Maryann does all the costuming for the Hale Center Theater in Orem, and she got us tickets to see Into the Woods one night. It was amazing, and so much fun to have a night out with my mom and sister!
