- I'll officially be in the third trimester tomorrow. I'm starting to panic just a little about all the things I need to get done in the next three months. On the other hand, I'm 6 months pregnant and all I really want to do during my free moments is lie down and take a nap. Hopefully my responsible side will win out MOST of the time.
- Pretending is the name of the game around here nowadays. We go to school, restaurants, the grocery store, have tea parties, you name it! And I kind of love it! Mainly because it means that all Livia really wants me to do is sit near her and go along with the storylines she comes up with. I can sit in one place for almost an hour while she runs around me during these games, and she is happy as can be! She has also developed imaginary friends (the little einsteins) who are always invited to our tea parties. The other day she informed me that I sat on Quincy. She is also quick to tell me that I can't put away a certain puzzle yet because "Annie is playing with it."
- Livia's naptime is quickly becoming a thing of the past. She will still usually do quiet time for an hour, but has so far only napped 2 or 3 times in January. I'm trying not to be totally depressed about this...but I had really been hoping she'd keep it up until the baby arrived--or preferably a little past that event.
- Liv understands really well that a new baby is coming. We talk about it a lot, and if you ask her what's happening in April, she will promptly tell you that her baby sister is coming. We've had discussions about giving her crib and old carseat to the baby, and she has readily agreed to ALL of these things. I know she does not understand all the implications--having to divide my time is something I don't really know how to prepare her for--but I'm pleased that overall she gets what's going on, and is excited about it. She gives the baby a hug and a kiss every night before bed, and I think it's adorable.
- I'm trying to decide whether or not to send Livia to preschool this coming fall. I know she'd love it, but do I really want to spend the money for her to attend preschool for TWO years?? Has anyone in the area found a relatively affordable preschool that they liked?

Thoughts
New year, new...everything
As I was thinking about this new year, I realized that our little family is going to be experiencing a LOT of changes!
1. New baby in April (that should be enough on its own)
2. Chase started a new job yesterday! It's a little further away, but the hours should be quite a bit better. I'm excited to hopefully see more of him during the week, and he's excited just to be doing something new.
3. Because of this new, longer-commute inducing job, we're getting a second car!!!! (can I add in a few more exclamation points?)!!!!!
Do you realize what this means? This means that I will no longer have my one-day-a-week-with-the-car schedule. Which means I will not have to spend most of that day running errands, which means I can actually do fun things outside of a 1 mile radius from our home! I feel like a 16 year old with keys in my pocket for the first time. Or at least, I will. Once we actually buy the car. We're narrowed it down from 20 options to about 5. So hopefully we'll have made a decision in the next couple weeks.
4. We got released as sunbeam teachers. Neither of us have gotten our new callings yet, so I don't know just how much of a change this is going to mean for us, but in the meantime Chase and I have actually been able to attend Sunday School and Priesthood/Relief Society. For the first time in a few years.
5. Moving?? Probably not. Definitely not until awhile after the baby is born. But then...who knows??
2011 should be fun! A little crazy, perhaps, but fun!!

4th anniversary
Chase and I spent our 4th anniversary driving back home from our trip (maybe we'll go out to dinner or something next week?? We'll see). We hit a mini-blizzard going through a mountain pass, but managed to get through alright, though it set us an hour behind schedule. We stopped for dinner in Bakersfield, and managed to pick the seediest fast food restaurant. Ever.
We should have taken the hint and turned around when we hit an enormous pothole in the parking lot (we're talking a full 3 feet in diameter), but alas! we got out of the car and went inside. We spent our entire meal eying different gang members walk in and out, and listening to an either insane or very drugged up woman alternate between laughing and crying to herself. Loudly. Livia wouldn't stop staring at her, which made me nervous. And Chase, who thrives on the ironic, kept making wiggly eyebrows at me and saying "happy anniversary, babe."
Ah, it was memorable. At least it was that. Ü

A very merry Christmas
We were lucky enough to spend a whole week at my parent's house for Christmas.
Everyone was there, minus Jon who's a missionary in Washington, and we had a wonderful time! We played games, ate lots of delicious food, helped Perry shop for the house he just bought, learned that David is killer at Rock Band, and all took turns playing with Livia (who hardly even glanced at me or Chase that week, she was so thrilled with all her new playmates!)
Livia was excited to open her presents/stocking on Christmas morning.

She got some great gifts (thanks everyone!), and was remarkably patient during our Christmas "morning" that extended til 1:30 in the afternoon.
I put together a dress-up box for her (after hitting up a lot of post-Halloween sales), and it's been a huge hit, largely in part to the "fairy dresses" that my mom had kept from past dress-up days and donated to the cause.

On Christmas Eve we always gather around the piano to sing Christmas carols. Livia started singing along into a microphone, and we all stopped so I could videotape it. But then she quickly switched to story telling, and I was happy to catch that, too. Ü
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!!
Snow day
We spent Christmas with my family in Apple Valley, and took advantage of the nearby mountains to introduce Livia to snow!
One of my mom's friends lent us a toddler snowsuit for Livia (she only has boys, so you'll have to forgive the "hockey star" outfit. Ü)
We went sledding (not me, of course), built snowmen, had snowball fights, sustained a few injuries, but overall had a fun time!

Enjoying San Francisco
We ventured up to San Francisco twice in December. Once to eat at Gary Danko's with some friends (and may I just say that the lobster risotto is a.maz.ing.)
And once during the day to enjoy a delicious breakfast at Mama's and see the post-impressionist exhibit at the De Young.
Chase and I both love Van Gogh, and enjoyed seeing some of his works, as well as many of the other post-impressionist artists.
Livia was restless in the museum, of course, and it was pretty tricky since we weren't allowed to bring a stroller into the exhibit. She also insisted that I, not Chase, hold her the entire time (and if you think it's easy to carry a wiggly toddler for an hour when you're 5 months pregnant, you must have never tried it).
At one point I moved into another room of the exhibit and she started to completely flip out, saying she didn't want to go that way, she wanted to go back the other way. As I tried to shush her and explain that we had to go a certain way in order to leave the exhibit, it suddenly occured to me that I should ask WHY she wanted to go back the other way. It turns out she had been looking at a painting and wasn't finished admiring it yet.
I kid you not.
Here is her favorite painting (which she still remembers and will describe to you if you ask her)
It's called "The Violet Wave," and I'm still a bit flabbergasted by that whole experience. Once she had gazed at it for a few more minutes I asked if she was done and she said "yep" and went docile as a lamb into the next room.
We played outside by the fountains for a while before driving home, and called it a day!
