Guatemala 3: a trip to the coast

Guatemala is filled with volcanoes (stay tuned for my full length volcano post later on), and one of the cool results of that are black sand beaches! Not only was this beach gorgeous, it also had the warmest ocean water I've ever felt in my life!

We all waded, except Rich (ever the poised mission president!)

We saw a lot of women carrying things on their heads throughout the trip. The balance is pretty amazing, but what impressed me most was the weight some women could carry around on their heads!
Another shot of the beach, with thatched roof homes and all.

Me and Livia

Hanging out with her daddy
Livia, running after everyone:

There are acres and acres of sugar cane fields down by the coast. (Knowing that snakes hang out in sugar cane, it was all Chase could do to pose for this picture. Ü )
We stopped in a city where they have some Olmec heads out on display, just out in the town square, where you can touch them and everything!
Check out the shades on this bad boy:

Really, it was very cool. I love history. Especially history you can actually see and touch and experience, so I very much enjoyed seeing all the ruins and other antiquated aspects of Guatemala.
